    Posted: 03 May 2010 at 16:33
The American Society of Sao Paulo is looking for a new editor for its monthly newsletter, The Forum, with work beginning in June/July for the August issue.

The Forum is a 16-page monthly newsletter/magazine in English, with feature stories, event previews and reviews regarding the American Society of Sao Paulo, and happenings in SP that relate to the ex-pat community. Learn more about AmSoc at www.amsoc.com.br, and see stories and pdfs from the Forum at www.amsoc.com.br/blog.

Those interested should speak and write fluently in English, and preferably be from native-speaking countries. A journalism or publishing background is preferred, though strong English writing background and other skills will be considered.

The editor would need to live in Sao Paulo. Base salary is R$800 per month, plus additional pay opportunity if you write stories and pay yourself out of the R$500 monthly budget for staff writing (one established staff writer is already with the newsletter). The editor would need to attend the AmSoc board meeting one Monday night per month.

If interested, e-mail your CV with full contact information inside to forum@amsoc.com.br AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Do not reply to this board posting with questions.

To answer the question, yes you would consider this a part-time job. You'd organize the newsletter and its contents from home. You wouldn't work on this all-day, every day. You'd work with your writers early in the month on their assignments, they'd email you the stories around the 10th, you'd try and edit everything and turn it over to the designers by the 13th or so, then it is out of your hands for a week or so.
Then around the 20th you'd get a rough draft pdf of the designed newsletter, and you'd go back and forth with the designers for a few days to correct errors and appearance of the newsletter. You'd approve a final pdf around the 25th of the month, and the designers would forward it on to a printing company. That company would print and mail out the Forum to subscribers.

So truly a part-time job that you can mold around your schedule.

Does the American Society of Sao Paulo have any need for designers at the moment?
