![]() Topic: Pay -Pal Exchange Rates?Posted: 12 March 2010 at 13:06 |

I know its possible now for Brazilians to open accounts with Pay Pal and connect the account to their bank account just like in other countries where its been a payment processor for a number of years. When sending Reais from a Pay-pal account in Brazil to say, the pay-pal account of an American, the transaction will of course automatically convert the Reais to dollars. My question is what kind of rate does Pay-pal give, the current market rate or do they take an extra commission from the rate? Does anyone have any experience with using Pay-pal this way? |

i've sent money to australia before and found it to be roughly 2.5% over the rate i was seeing online, but that was a few years back, just make sure you fund it with your checking account and not a credit card so the person receiving the money doesn't have to pay to receive it

I got a piss poor rate. I did my first transfer earlier this week, from Paypal to Itau. $50USD only. I got a rate of 1.65 reais per dollar. On a withdrawal from my US bank via Bradesco last week, I got 1.74 reais per dollar.
Any one else try a PayPal -> Brazilian bank transfer? |

What a lot of people don't think about when they transfer money from ANY place is its not just the 'service fee' or whatever they want to call it.
Its also the exchange rate.
A place may offer you only a 1% 'service fee' but clip you a half point or more on the exchange rate.
I've seen places in the US advertise no 'service fees' but take a point and a half on the exchange rate.... you have to inquire about both!!

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave with a well preserved body, but to skid in sideways at a high rate of speed, drink in one hand, totally worn out shouting, "Whoa, what a ride"!
