Starting in BH in June - could anyone recommend a tutor/school for a Spanish speaker?

Thanks,
Daniel

Hi I'm mov ing to BH soon too, did you decide where you want to study?  The cheapest place i found was the Federal University at least that was in January this year when i researched it last (the UFMG), although now i cant seem to find any details of the course on the website, maybe they stopped it?  I dont really want to commute each day to Pampulha if i can help it, which is where the UFMG is, so i would be really interested to know if you have found any alt schools, particularly any in the South half of BH..

I'm starting lessons at UFMG tomorrow. Their courses are definitely the cheapest; the downside is not having many contact hours. I really like the campus, though, and think it’ll be great to be amongst lots of Brazilians rather than gringos.

Thanks for that! Very glad to hear the UFMG still offers Portuguese courses for foreigners, and I totally agree with you, its a great campus and the fact that its predominantly full of Brazilians has to be a good thing for a gringo learning the lingo.  Maybe you can help me, i checked the website and couldn't find any listings for dates and prices which i had previously found back in january hence i assumed they cancelled the course, maybe i missed something on the website, can you point me in the right direction?  good luck with your studies!  Smile

thanks for the tip, not sure my money will stretch to one on one tuition though.  Does your friend teach at any language schools do you know?

Yes - it can be a pain to find the info on the net! The trick is that the courses are offered through CENEX, which in turn can be found through FUNDEP, which is within UFMG. Simple, yeah? :-) Try this link for a start:

Or go to the CENEX admin, which is located on the ground floor of the Letras building at UFMG.

And no, last time I looked all the courses targeting foreigners at private schools cost way more than I can afford!

Thats a great help, thank you!  Best of luck with your studies and maybe see you around the campus if you're still there in February/March next year.  Smile
