Quote gggg Replybullet Topic: Cost of living in Sao Paulo
    Posted: 07 June 2008 at 04:29
I am planning to move to Sao Paulo. I am a Software engineer with 14 years of experience currently serving as Senior Manager.

I have few questions

1. What should be my comfortable salary  per month for a good life style and savings

2. What  could be the monthly rental for a 2 bedroom Appratment

3. What is the cost of living in Sao Paulo for a family of 3 people.

     a) Food
      b) Grocery
     c) Household
     d) Utilities
      e) Medical

4. What could be the monthly expense on schooling for a 4 year old kid
5. How much a  mid segment sedan/SUV will cost
6. What would be the cost of GAS per month if i travel around 100 KM per day.
7. What can be monthly cost on entertainment like , dine outside, movie, site seeing etc.

Looking for some early help

Thanks in advance Smile

This blog from an ex-pat American has a cost of living section that covers all of your questions.

I'll just expand on a few things.

A comfortable salary is R$8 - 10,000.  (but what is comfortable to you?)

A non-international school (where English is not the working language) for a 5 year old will be R$1000 plus materials.

A medical plan for a family of 3 (2 adults, 1 child) will approx R$800 depending on cover (dental is extra).

Neighborhoods vary with prices but expect a mid-range unfurnished long-term (30M) rental of R$2-3000 plus condo (up to R$650 if you want the pool, play, etc)

The rest is covered in the blog

gggg: it's worth hunting out a post from a user called Quem. Somewhere in his archive he gave quite a detailed breakdown of the cost of living in SP.

I don't know any software engineers that make 10K a month. If you find me a job like that I'd really like it Clap

 Clap

Neither do I - I merely answered his question based on the brief, location and general expectations of US citizens wishing to stay in a similar position to that which they enjoyed in the USA.
