I don't know if I am supposed to post/ask this here. I just want one or two simple swear words in Portuguese.

I get so frustrated there when I can't curse in Portuguese. Nothing too vulgar, just a simple s--t or d--n will do.

Maybe there's not a portuguese word or translation for these?

Do most Brazilians curse or is it considered rude and  impolite?? (not at you, mind you, just words in the air)

Thanks. N

Caramba, teach a lady to swear, whatever next!

I tend to say "caramba" which I understand to be a harmless retort or exclamation. No doubt you will hear worse.

"Filho da Puta" which equates to "Son of a bitch" (I guess there's Filha da puta as well). "Droga"... although not sure what this equates to other than "Drug"?

Wow! I don't curse in Portuguese let alone in English but I've bought a special English dictionary only for swear words. I've learned a lot of them but I never use them. You'll hear only sweet words from my mouth.

It is my observation that in Brazil those who are well educated swear very little, and those who are well raised, even less.

I like "Putz!" but its not really a swear word, more like an excalamation mark if that makes sense. Droga is another one but colloqually it implys "sh*t".

"Caralho", "Bosta" and "Foda" are for special moments the first could be used for the silly motoqueiro who nearly hits your mirror (but make sure he doesn't hear you), something like "que bosta" when you arrive at the cartorio and the girl behind the counter tells you that one paper is missing from the list required (again under your breath) and the latter similarly to "oh sh*t".

Actually I'm finding alot of people in Orkut use "Foda" to imply something is good similar to "Bacana".

I find that Cariocas swear more than Paulistas and men of course more than women. Education does have something to do with too but I am not sure it is as clear cut as Dunga mentions.

By the way I didn't put those * in there, the bloody editor did. What the hell is goin on there?????
