Hi Tomjo, My wife and I sent some money over to BR from UK last year, several thousand squid. We used WA International. Have a look at their website, they only charge a £3 admin fee whatever the amount. I will be using them in the future. Any questions feel free to PM me.

I was right in the middle of a f***ing reptile zoo, and somebody was giving booze to these goddamn things. Won't be long now before they tear us to shreds.

Brazilian law requires that the money is registered with the Banco Central. I'd highly advise you send it through the proper channels and NOT directly into the Seller's account. Going with Banco do Brasil is a good idea.

You probably already transferred your money but maybe others will see this. I just purchased some land last week in Florianopolis. I sent two wires from my Chase bank in the US to the sellers bank at Banco do Brasil. The reason for two wires is there was a limit to how much could be sent using online wire transfer service. We put specific notes on the wire in Portuguese stating to not release the funds until we sign the land contract.
Everything went smooth and we all went into the bank together, signed the contract, and he received his money.
The fees were reasonable, HOWEVER, we received a much smaller exchange rate for our money from Banco do Brasil. Which ended up costing us around $US 1,500. I knew that this would be a possibility and this amount wasn't going to make me not want the land anymore, since I got a deal on the land anyway.
