Moving to Curitiba Hi. My wife and I are planning to move to curitiba. She's set with her career but I'm looking for a change. I'm an american with permanent res status in Brazil plus all the necessary work documentation to work for most anyone here. I would, however, prefer to work for an international company and be "transferred" there.Any help to find a list of internationals with offices located in the city or even a job board that you would recommend? Best bairro(s) to live in? Schools? Thank you so much PS: We have chosen Curitiba over Floripa because of job ops for me, wife has a friend there and we like everything we hear about the city - even the complaints! That being said, we could easily head to Floripa if we found me the right opportunity. Thanks! |

Hi - I don't know much regarding Curitiba but out of interest what is it that you have been doing in Rio and how long have you been living there for?(is it just your wife's Job that's made you want to move or was it some thing about the city?)
My wife and I resonantly moved to Porto Alegre due to work from living in Rio. |

Hi, Tomjo. The state! And not to say it's a bad place at all, beautiful, rather it's just that we're not too carioca.... She's from the area, but because she's a dr we can go anywhere in the country and we really like what we hear about the south.
I've been teaching english by default and although enjoying it at times it's not what I want to do. Half of me would like floripa for surf and health (from So Cal) however the other half welcomes the organization and culture that said to be found in Curitiba. Thanks for the reply. How's PA treating you? |

Hey Sansebastian,
I've been living hear a little over 2 years now, and yeh, it is a nice place to live. Not the most exciting city in the world, but nice, and great if you have kids. The medical, community services, and general management of the city is pretty good, and the weather, well we take the good with the bad. just had 6 weeks of sun without rain and over 20C each day which for me is a great winter. For a place to live I guess that will depend on where you will work, but I love it over here in the Batel/ Agua Verde / Seminario/ Bigorihillo or Vila Izabel area. These suburbs are close to the city, with good restaurants, bars ,Shopping and Parque Barigui which is great for a walk or run each day. As for schools, well this will depend on how much you are willing to pay and travel each day. But there are a few good international schools in the city. If you want to keep teaching English I could put you in touch with one of the better Business schools which I know is hiring at the moment. Well, heading off to the beach now (which is always an option on weekends ;). Cheers... |

PoA is fine thanks sansebastian - Does not really feel like your in Brazil, more like Europe - I have not been to Curitiba but it sounds like little bit like here.
Its a better place to conduct your life from if you need a more structured society, the Germany and Italian influence is clearly every where to be seen - many people are blond and blue eyes and there are not that many black people here at all. Its not the most exciting City in the world but it has a more sophisticated Clubbing scene than Rio - however the restaurants are more provincial and all seen to have a home cooking feel to them, I prefer the more corporate feel that only Sao Paulo or Rio might be able to provide. Hi- i live in CWB although am traveling in north america atm.... you could look at electrolux, esso, volvo, renault, blount (north american chainsaw mfr), brookfield (canadian hydro design), i could go on and on but you might want to specify what your abilities are. all these companies have centers either in Ctba or a satellite city (Sao Jose dos Pinhais, Campo Largo, etc). Esso I would especially check if you have other language ability plus informatica ability, they are almost always hiring- a quick search will get you their jobs page. When you get here let me know, i will be putting together another CWB get together when i return probably for September. Boa sorte and don't believe all the BS about curitiba.
also, how old are your kids (assuming you have since you asked about schools... or are you asking about schools to teach in?). I've got a ten year old daughter who could use a playmate who doesn't get all stoooopid when she learns that my kid is Brazilian AND American. best, tracy |
