One observation I have made since the first time visiting Brazil is that it seems like a lot of Brazilians don't have good skin complections.  Acne or some other sort of skin problem seems to be more prevelant than other places I've lived or visited.

I notice it a lot with young people, but even adults have the scars on their faces of something from their youth.

Is it me or?  I was wondering if it may have something to do with the lack of abundance of warm water, like in the US and UK, the atomosphere, air, or something else.  Anyone else have an observation concerning this??

It's probably sunspots you're seeing...it's common in Brazil especially with high (40+) temperatures....they can be removed by treatment but it's not cheap...

Hi James,

Yes, I see acne scars on the cheeks of many teens/20 year olds, I've always wondered why.

The causes of acne are well documented however if you have noticed an increased prevalence of the condition then it is likely attributable to an ill-balanced or unhealthy diet bringing about negative consequences affecting the liver and colon.

I have to take issue with your assumption (it cannot be experience) of a lack of warm water (you mean "Hot", I presume) in the UK. I cannot speak about the US as I don't know. But I doubt that there is any shortage.

I can tell you on good authority that there is Hot water available in all prisons, hospitals and homes in the UK. Certain caves in Wales and Scotland are without but the inhabitants, usually heavily bearded, including the women, seldom suffer from acne.

Acne, sun spots and other disfiguring skin ailments are not associated with a lack of hot water. On the other hand blackheads, pustular occlusions of sweat glands are all about personal hygiene - which is one area where one should never point an accusing finger at Brazilians.
Judging from my ridiculously high water bills my employees spend most of their free time under the shower...........

Bigsby-You can take issue all you want as you didn't understand the comment.  I didn't say the US and UK had any lack of warm/hot water-as you 'took issue' with.  I was comparing the lack of warm/hot water in all faucets in Brazil with the fact that the US and UK have hot water in all sinks.  The issue/comparison would be that the citizens of the US and UK have it much better as they can find warm water to wash their faces in bathroom sinks, where my experience has been in Brazil most bathroom sinks only have cold water.
I have been to the UK on several occassions and didn't say what you thought... don't get your panties in a bind...

Never noticed that Brazilians have more acne or scars, but...

Could have something to do with the climate plus the fact that acne treatments are not something the average Brazilian can afford? Whereas the US and UK have had "cheap" treatments/cosmetics/scrubs for decades?

The hot/cold water thing? Brazilians take an average of 2 showers per day - hot water. The cold water at the sink probably isn't responsible.

Acne is the result of a bourgeois junk food diet. It is the new small pox of Brazil. Go by a private school letting out and the kids look like any N. American adolescents; pudgy, pasty and pimply faced.

Are you sure about that? I've seen on many occasions where couples or friends are squeezing blackheads off each other in public places. Some of them have long sessions.

I suppose the acne could also come from frying too many pastels or eating too much boteco food, but as a whole it seems that a lot of people are very conscious of their skin here.
